The hazel nut spreads can be very nutritious, especially for babies and kids, but you need to know the nutritional facts before you go ahead and buy them.
We’re going to explain how to make your own, and give you tips on what to look for and how to prepare them ahead of time.
What you need for the recipe: To make hazel nuts, cut your hazel, which is a loose, green, and flaky type of nut.
We usually like to cut our hazel into smaller pieces to make them easier to peel.
Make sure to use a food processor or blender.
Make a few slices of the hazel to make sure they are a bit smaller than your whole hazel.
Place the sliced hazel on a large baking sheet.
You’ll need about an inch of baking paper to cover the hazell.
Bake at 425°F for 10 minutes or until the hazels are browned.
Remove the hazEL and transfer it to a paper towel-lined baking sheet to cool.
After it’s cooled, peel the hazeltnuts from the paper.
If you’re using a food mill, make sure you don’t over-work the machine, as it can make the hazeli nuts hard and brittle.
When you peel, it can look like a large peeling object.
To remove the hazelfut, gently squeeze the peel off with your fingers.
Put the hazelednuts into a bowl and toss to coat with melted butter.
Serve with a dollop of whipped cream and a drizzle of honey.
For the recipe with the instructions: To prepare hazel spreads, you’ll need two things: the hazelenut powder and the honey.
First, make the honey: Whisk together 1 tablespoon of the honey, 1/4 cup of the cocoa powder, and 1/2 cup of milk.
Make the hazela nut powder: Whirl the honey and cocoa powder together.
Add 1 tablespoon cornstarch, 1 tablespoon sugar, and a pinch of salt.
Make your hazell spread: Add the hazella nuts and hazel Nut Spread (we used a homemade version), and stir to combine.
Transfer to a container and store in a cool, dark place.
