A new poll shows Republicans are far more comfortable with the way Donald Trump is handling the presidency.
The survey by the conservative polling group, Public Policy Polling, found that 57% of Americans approve of the way Trump is running the country.
Just 34% disapprove.
The same poll showed a plurality of Republicans, 46%, said they’d prefer Trump to be re-elected.
The numbers were similar to a CNN/ORC poll from earlier this month.
The latest poll comes as the Trump administration continues to battle the fallout from former national security adviser Michael Flynn’s guilty plea.
In a statement Friday, the White House said the survey showed that the public had a “clear understanding” of the challenges facing the administration.
The poll shows that Americans are “extremely dissatisfied with the current administration,” according to the statement.
“The public is very worried about the direction of the country and the direction it is taking on the environment, the economy and the national security issues,” the statement continued.
“The public’s dissatisfaction with the direction is also a reflection of how they view the president.”
The White House also released a statement on Friday saying it was “very disappointed” in the poll.
“These are just the latest examples of the president’s lack of support for the American people,” the White the statement read.
“Despite the fact that the poll shows public opinion has shifted over the last week, the president continues to continue to say the same old things.
That is why he is still in office.
We are disappointed that the president is not getting the support of the American voters he promised he would.”
